Even though this is taken after dark, this is the view that we saw when we first opened the front door. You can see how close the two trucks were parked (the arrow is pointing at a headlight). I had damage to every side of the van, but everything still works (after a bit of hammering), and the vehicle only leaks a little. I count myself as very blessed indeed, and have recently acquired a certain nervousness about trees, wind and parking spaces. |

The next day, an older woman parked on the street, got
out, and using her walker for support, sifted through the tree remains
to select a small branch. When we asked, she told us she had been on the
street, driving when she saw the tree rock back and forth, twist and fall.
She is still not sure how she got her tiny little economy car under the
falling mass of wood, but she did, and the people right behind her stopped
in time to keep out of harm's way.
We were all very lucky that day. |
